Why choose an ALEP Member?

Formed in 2007, the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP) promotes best practice by vetting individual barristers and organisations to ensure they have the requisite expertise in leasehold enfranchisement.

Membership of ALEP acts as a badge of assurance so that leaseholder and freeholder clients can be confident that they are employing professionals with the right level of expertise in handling potentially complex transactions.

ALEP is a not-for-profit association

ALEP is a not-for-profit association that brings together barristers, managing agents, project managers, solicitors and valuers working in the residential leasehold sector.

We are non-political and act in an independent capacity to ensure the quality and integrity of its membership, with the aim of spreading best practice in all matters concerning leasehold.

ALEP’s membership encompasses businesses that work with both freeholders and leaseholders, with the common objective of providing expert advice and support to their clients.

Over the years ALEP has been at the forefront of leasehold enfranchisement. Founded with an aim to bring together enfranchisement practitioners committed to promoting excellence within the sector, the Association has gone on to become the go-to source for expert opinion in all things leasehold.

ALEP now has more than 260 member organisations and counting; which equates to over 1,200 professionals.

What is Leasehold Enfranchisement?

Leasehold enfranchisement includes the processes of lease extension, freehold acquisition, and correction of management problems within leasehold properties.

ALEP exists to ensure that practitioners involved in these matters adhere to an agreed level of service and have the requisite experience.

ALEP was set up in 2007 in response to concerns raised by owners of leasehold properties who wanted reassurance that the people they were dealing with were reputable. Freeholders also require this reassurance.
